I still remember the day I discovered Dogecoin.
It was in mid-December 2013, a week or two after the Dogecoin blockchain was released to the public.
No stupid ICO, Masternode presale or premine. It was a fair launch where anyone with a graphics card could start mining Dogecoin and actually earn some Doge.
I myself had just entered the crypto world and sold my first investment of Goldcoin (GLD).
I had $750 to spend, and I got myself 2 R9 280X graphics cards to start mining.
My first coin to mine was Dogecoin.
When was Dogecoin launched, and why?
Dogecoin was released on 2013-12-07 with the first block being mined that night.
The announcement of the creation and launch was made on Bitcointalk.
The official thread and creator account is still very active. You can find it here: Dogecoin Bitcointalk Thread.
Dogecoin was created for no other reason than the Doge meme was very popular at the time.
It had a bit of a slow start, but the community grew quickly, as Dogecoin is mined with the Scrypt algorithm,
At the time, there were no Scrypt ASIC miners, so GPU was the only way.
How do I buy or mine some Dogecoin?
So, if you want to get your hands on some Dogecoin, the easiest way would be to buy some from an exchange.
You could also start mining for Dogecoin, but unless you already have a Scrypt ASIC farm sitting ready, it would make no sense to mine Dogecoin.
As of right now, cheap and non-profitable Scrypt miners only cost a couple of hundred dollars, but again. You will lose money because of the electricity cost.
Unless you can find some other Scrypt coin to merge mine with AuxPoW.
So, the best way to get some Dogecoins is by buying them from an exchange.
Crypto Exchanges Where You Can Buy Dogecoin
The vast majority of exchanges offer Dogecoin trading pairs, but here is a list of exchanges we recommend:

- Coinbase Pro
- Gate.io

- Kraken
- Huobi
- KuCoin
Dogecoin Blockchain Specifications
Dogecoin is the native token of the Dogecoin Blockchain.
The Dogecoin Ticker is: DOGE
The Block Time of Dogecoin is 1 Minute, so moving Dogecoin on the native chain is very fast.
After every block is mined, 10.000 Dogecoin is released to the miner who solved the block.
The block reward will remain constant, as that is what the developer of Dogecoin wrote into the source code.
Previously, the reward was higher, but to lower inflation, the reward was lowered several times as per the design.
Dogecoin Block Reward Schedule
The Dogecoin block reward has been predetermined with anti-inflation in mind as the community would grow.
